The Beauty and The Beast

Cast: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, Stanley Tucci

Direction: Bill Condon

Genre: Fantasy

Story: Beauty and the Beast, is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s hit 1991 film. "Beauty and the Beast" is a fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast's hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Performance: The beast gets a terrifying CGI makeover with Stevens rendering a decent motion-capture performance. Watson plays the feminist heroine with conviction. The storyline is at its best adding a few new pointers.

Positives: Screenwriters Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos and director Bill Condon have done a commendable job of taking the 1991 animated movie and delivering what fans want, while also offering something new enough, to not make it feel like a note for note copy and by offering nothing new. The special effects, sound, costumes, voice-overs, songs - overall production values are first-rate.

Negatives: Emma Watson isn’t a flawless Belle, there’s a lack of confidence in her acting. She sometimes seems to be hitting her marks obediently rather than owning each moment. The depiction of eternal love between Watson and Stevens, however, isn’t as awe-inspiring. They lack a bit of chemistry between each other in comparison to the overall visual excellence and grandeur of this spectacular production.

Final Verdict: It’s a much watch film for all the Disney film lovers and for everyone else. Beauty and the Beast, still proves to be the best love story. Go and re-live the moment of the film.

We rate this film 3.5/5 star.
